LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) central office conferred to the First Benguet District Engineering Office (FBDEO) the most eco-friendly office in the Cordillera besting two other district offices nominated for the agency’s coveted award.
The Search for the Eco-friendly DPWH district offices was launched last year to empower the agency’s 183 district offices nationwide to ensure their active participation to efforts of the government in helping preserve and protect the environment and covert their offices and their compounds into eco-friendly places that will motivate their clients to practice similar endeavors.
The FBDEO headed by Engr. Ireneo S. Gallato edged the Lower Kalinga District Engineering office which he previously headed and now led by Engr. David Buliyat and the Second Apayao District Engineering office (SADEO) under the leadership of Engr. Januario Garde.
The 3 eco-friendly district offices in each of the regions went to Metro Manila late last year where the winners in the said search were announced and given the appropriate recognition by no less than Public works Secretary Mark Villar during simple but meaningful rites.
The Search for Eco-friendly district offices is aimed at motivating DPWH officials and employees to be creative in converting their workplaces and compounds into environmentally-friendly places aside from maximizing the use of available government resources to help in preserving and protecting the environment, as well as beautifying their workplaces for clients to feel at home when transacting businesses with the said offices.
Gallato expressed his gratitude to the officials and personnel of the FBDEO for their individual and collective effort in putting the appropriate interventions and improvements in their office and compound that resulted into their office being adjudged as the most eco-friendly office regionwide.
The DPWH-FBDEO official encouraged the personnel in charge of the beautification programs of the agency to continue looking for ways of further improving the current situation within the compound to add up to the scenery in the area and serve as a model for other district offices to emulate in the future.
He claimed there will be continuous improvements in the way officials and personnel will implement their desired beautification projects to sustain the identity of their office and compound as an eco-friendly district office in the region considering that it is worth being proud by those responsible for the realization of the noble environmental preservation and protection project.
FBDEO has jurisdiction over national roads in the towns of Ls Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Bokod and Kibungan while the SBEDO covers national roads in the towns of Tublay, Kapangan. Kibungan, Atok, Bakun, Mankayan and Buguias. The seat of the FBDEO is in Wangal, La Trinidad while the SBDEO has its main office in Natubleng, Buguias, Benguet.
