TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A total of 655 slots is open for interested qualified students or out-of-school youths for the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) for the coming summer vacation.
SPES is an employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) implemented with partner local government units, agencies and institutions to provide students the opportunity to earn while on vacation. As a scheme DOLE provides for the forty percent (40%) of the student’s salary while the partner agency provides for the sixty percent (60%) as counterpart.
Tabuk City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Loyda Saboy said that this summer, DOLE gave 600 slots for the city, and city government allotted for the additional 55 to accommodate more beneficiaries for the program.
Registration is open for the Grade 10 to 11 and college students between with the ages of 15 to 30 years. Requirements include photocopy of average passing grade such as class card or form 138 of the previous semester or year immediately preceding the application, or original copy of certification by the school registrar as to passing grade immediately preceding semester/year if grades are not yet available.
Out of school youths (OSY) with the intention to enrol next school year are also qualified to register for the program. They are however required to submit certificates from the barangay and the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) confirming their being OSYs.
All applicants should bring with them a photocopy of their birth certificate or any document indicating birth or age as Form 137 or any government issued ID.
As proof that the applicant belongs to a poor family, they are required to bring a photocopy of any of the following: income tax return or a BIR issued certification indicating that the parent’s are tax exempted; original certificate of low income issued by the barangay where the applicant resides; or original certificate of low income issued by the DSWD or its city counterpart.
For 18 years old and above are likewise required to provide a photocopy of their certificate/voter’s ID. If not the Voter’s Certification of parent Except for the Voter’s ID, applicants must provide two photocopies each of the required documents.
Application is open until March after which a qualifying exam will be conducted for the final screening.
