BAUKO, Mountain Province – The successful offering of the biggest ‘patupat’ and the traditional ‘sinab-ang’ during the recent Langa-ay festival has motivated the provincial government and its private sector partners to provide the local residents and more visitors with local delicacies as added attraction for the annual staging of the province’s major crowd-drawing event held every April.
Gov. Bonifacio Lacwaan, Jr. said for next year’s offering, Lang-ay festival organizers are contemplating on serving to the public the biggest ‘linapet,’ one of the major traditional products of Besao town as one of the major features of the 2018 festival.
“We are grateful to the people of Mountain Province and our foreign and local visitors for making this year’s Lang-ay festival a resounding success. We appeal for understanding from the public if we were not able to meet their expectations and rest assured that we will use our shortcomings as a vehicle to improve the conduct of the festival next year,” Lacwasan stressed.
The governor expressed the heartfelt gratitude of the people and officialdom of Mountain Province to all those, who, in one way or the other, contributed their time, efforts and resources for the successful staging of the numerous activities of this year’s Lang-ay festival and celebration of the province’s 50th founding anniversary.
Lacwasan underscored the unity, teamwork, solidarity and the love for Mountain Province of local residents and visitors should serve as an inspiration for local organizers to try their best in finding the best innovation to introduced in next year’s festivities to entice people to consider the Lang-ay festival as a must-see event because the attractions that are worthy of visiting.
According to him, the private sector in the province, specifically the Lang-ay Festival Organization, and the business sector, were also instrumental in making this year’s activities successful and the events were able to project that Mountain Province is worth visiting year-round because of its well-preserved environment, the peace-loving people and the province’s rich culture and traditions.
Aside from the biggest ‘linapet,’ Lacwasan said organizers are looking into the other products of the different municipalities that could be featured in next year’s festival to allow people to start planning their vacation to Mountain Province during the festival.
He said organizers are contemplating on having unique festival attractions annually so that local residents and visitors will have varied experiences annually which will attract return and new visitors to sustaining the robust growth of the local tourism industry and help in spurring economic growth in the identified tourist destinations.
Lang-ay is the Kankana-ey term for getting together and feasting on food and drinks to celebrate a bountiful harvest for their produce.
Mountain Province is one of the primary ecotourist destinations in the country because of its scenic tourist spots in the ten towns like the stone walled rice terraces, caves, waterfalls, river systems and other sceneries around the province.
