TABUK CITY, Kalinga- – At least 258 boys from age bracket 6-16 years old were successfully circumcised for free during the ‘’Operation Tuli’’ conducted on May 12 at the City Health Office (CHO).
The activity was sponsored by CHO and Philippine Nurses Association (PNA)-Kalinga Chapter in partnership with GMA Kapuso Foundation.
Prior to the activity, Jandel Taguiam of the CHO said that radio announcement was made to inform the barangays of the upcoming free circumcision.
Now a yearly activity of the CHO, Taguiam also said that another free circumcision will ensue the whole morning of May 20 and 27 at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines Church, Magsaysay, this city.
Apart from free circumcision, they also gave free medicines for the healing of the operation to the boys. The team also distributed school supplies to 600 pupils in the city the next day.
Accordingly, circumcision is done for easier hygiene, decreased risk of urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infections and penile cancer as well as prevention of penile problems.
