LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government and concerned stakeholders will deliver another wave of relief assistance to the calamity-stricken residents of Cagayan as part of its efforts to reach out to people who are in dire need of help because of the serious negative effects of the recent natural calamities and the ongoing health crisis that had heavily impacted on thousands of Filipinos over the past several months.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda said the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office and other volunteers are currently packing donations from kind hearted residents which will comprise the next wave of relief assistance to be delivered to the typhoon-stricken residents of Cagayan.
Among the relief assistance to Cagayan include tons of highland vegetables such as potatoes, chayote, carrots, cabbage, food items, hygiene kits, rice, noodles and other basic necessities needed by the people who lost their economic activities and sources of livelihood because of the wrath of Typhoon Ulysses last month.
Earlier, La Trinidad also delivered its first wave of relief assistance composed of assorted vegetables and food items to Sta. Maria, Isabela where thousands of affected residents availed of the assistance for them to help cope with their difficult situation.
Mayor Salda pointed out there are still numerous kind hearted-residents from the different barangays who were touched by the situation in the Cagayan and Isabela provinces during the height of the typhoon, thus amidst the difficulties that they are encountering from the pandemic, they can still spare resources to share with the calamity-stricken people of the said places.
“We observed that despite the heavy impact of the pandemic to control the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), we had been receiving enormous pledges of donations from our kind-heated constituents because they really want to help our devastated brothers and sisters in Cagayan and Isabela. We are just returning the compliment to the people who also helped us during our difficult situation at the height of Typhoons Pepeng and Ondoy over a decade ago,”
Salda stressed.
According to him, the municipal government is coordinating with local officials of Cagayan and Isabela to evaluate and assess whether or not it will still be appropriate to deliver another wave of relief assistance from the people of the municipality and the province as a whole. He claimed the next wave of relief assistance from the municipal government will be delivered to Cagayan as soon as the packaging shall have been completed as donations still continue to arrive and are being sorted out by volunteers.
Bulk of the donations from the concerned citizens are assorted highland vegetables from the different vegetable-producing areas and various food items purchased from the cash donations received since the donation campaign was launched by the municipal government to extend the help to the calamity-stricken residents of Isabela and Cagayan.
