BAGUIO CITY – In line with the week-long celebration of the Department of Agriculture–Cordillera’s (DA-CAR) 36th Founding Anniversary, the agency conducted an Animal Fun Show, free veterinary services, and seeds distribution at the BPI Compound, Guisad today, June 26, 2024.
Dogs of different breeds flexed their cuteness through a fashion walk. The criteria for judging are well-groomed (5%), updated vaccination (5%), audience impact (5%), Discipline/obedience (10%), and summer attire (75%).
A rescued Aspin named Melai with her fur parent Merly Millena grabbed the 2nd runner-up, dressed in purple with a long trail. Meanwhile, a 14-year-old named Yogi with owner Moira Ysabel Rillo placed 1st runner-up wearing an eco-friendly dress, while another shih tzu named Biscuit with owner Marianne Jean Mejia clinched the championship, donning an ati-atihan costume with her fur parent.
The activity through the Regulatory Division is also in partnership with the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office. Free services offered include consultation, anti-rabies vaccination, parvo vaccination, and deworming.
DA-CAR Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Dr. Arlene M. Sagayo said that the activity aims to advocate responsible pet ownership which is also in relation to the agency’s campaign on rabies-free Cordillera.
Meanwhile, free seeds for urban gardening are also being distributed through the High Value Crops Development Program and National Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program.
