BAGUIO CITY – a 38-year old labourer died while his companion was injured after they were reportedly carried away by the strong water current of the drain tunnel of the City Camp Lagoon at Crystal Cave, Bakakeng Central here early Thursday evening.
City disaster officials identified the fatality as Lito “Bulog” Malao Molada, 38, married, and a native of Bauko, Mountain Province, while his injured companion was named as Franklin Lagenio.
Initial investigation showed the two workers of a government project in the area were on their way out of the tunnel when the strong waters coming from upstream carried them away out from the drain tunnel.
Lagenio was immediately rescued by responding rescuers from various agencies and responders while the lifeless remains of Modawan was recovered at around 3:30 am Friday or over eight hours after the reported drowning incident.
Officials are still ascertaining the liability of the contractor of the project in relation to the unfortunate incidents that led to the loss of life and inflicting injury to another in the area.
