FLORA, Apayao – In line with the government’s commitment to transparent and accountable governance, the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera spearheaded a Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting in Flora, Apayao on March 21, 2024.
The event aimed to ensure that stakeholders, especially farmers and fishers, are well-informed and actively engaged in government decision-making processes. It provided a platform for the agency to interact directly with stakeholders through discussions and an open forum.
During the meeting, OIC-Field Operations Division Chief Marlyn C. Tejero emphasized that such gatherings play a crucial role in advancing the government’s sustainable development goals in the agriculture sector. “The DA plays a vital role in rural development, and we are here to listen to your voices to enhance our programs,” she stated.
Several issues were raised, including the delayed issuance of Intervention Monitoring Cards (IMC) to RSBSA registered farmers, the inclusion of unqualified Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) beneficiaries, and the sudden discontinuation of interventions for RSBSA registered farmers who had previously received assistance.
Regional Rice Program Coordinator Edwin Franco assured attendees that the agency is working diligently to expedite the issuance of IMCs. He also explained that the list of RFFA beneficiaries can be updated, and Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Councils (MAFCs) are encouraged to collaborate with the Municipal Agriculture’s Office for updates. Furthermore, Tejero advised affected farmers to formalize their concerns and list all affected farmers so that the agency can address the issue promptly.
The town hall meeting attracted approximately 300 participants, including farmers, private seed companies, and partner agencies. Information Education Campaign materials were also distributed during the event, enhancing the dissemination of relevant information to stakeholders. By Leny D. Mendoza
