LUNA, Apayao – The local government units (LGUs) of Apayao officially aligned with the Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) Program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) which was launched on January 6, 2024.
With the support of the LGUs to the DILG’s program, it is expected that the endeavour’s impact will be amplified.
In accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 2024-001, known as the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program, said effort consolidates governmental actions aimed at sustaining a healthy and safe environment. The program emphasizes capacitating LGUs and developing community participation, rooted in the spirit of bayanihan.
The overarching objective of the Kalinisan Program is to raise awareness and promote active involvement among yApayaos in environmental responsibility, particularly in the realm of proper solid waste management. Cleanup efforts will span various areas such as streets, canals, waterways, public markets, schools, and parks.
The directive likewise expressly called upon newly elected and appointed barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to spearhead cleanup initiatives. Among the crucial responsibilities delegated to them are dredging canals to ensure unimpeded water flow, trimming overgrown plants or tree branches, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and clearing rubbish along riverbanks.
The commencement of the clean-up drive marks the initiation of efforts to instill environmental awareness and safeguard the pristine state of Apayao for the prosperity of future generations.
