Believing in the dictum, “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”, the city government continuous to find ways to improve and make more effective its disaster management efforts.
Thus, Mayor Benjamin Magalong stated in his State of the City Address during the 112th Baguio Charter Day Anniversary, September 1, at the Baguio Convention Center with Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat as guest of honor.
This year’s celebration theme is , “Moving Forward As One”.
He said the city is a recipient of the ASEAN Smart City Flood Early Warning System as well as a partner and study site in several Department of Science and Technology and academe-led science-based researches.
These are the aquifer recharge system, Smart City development system, Seismic Stratigraphy Mapping, and others, the Mayor said.
“We are preparing to validate the climate and disaster risk assessment of the local government in partnership with climate change and disaster risk specialists in the academe and private sector,” he said.
The city is purchasing a P10 million Life Locator equipment to ensure that the Summer Capital is prepared for post-disaster events.
Also being acquired is an Air Anenometer that could be used to test air circulation within enclosed spaces in business establishments and industrial sites in the city.
“This will make sure that the spread of covid-19 in these locations where people congregate is checked,” the Mayor said.-Gaby B. Keith
