BAUKO, Mountain Province – The National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (NADAC) recognized the municipal government for its ability to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the municipality pursuant to the marching orders of President Rodrigo R. Duterte to stop illegal drugs in the different parts of the country.
Mayor Abraham B. Akilit received the recognition in behalf of the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) during the recent awarding ceremonies that was held in Metro Manila last week.
The NADAC gave the municipality a 100 percent rating in terms of the implementation of programs, projects and activities in curbing illegal drugs which is one of the major thrusts of the present administration.
The award mechanism of the government aims to provide recognitions to provincial, city and municipal anti-drug abuse councils which have exceptionally performed their assigned duties and responsibilities in planning and implementing their anti-illegal drug programs, projects and activities.
“ We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the concerned stakeholders of the local anti-drug abuse council and the people of Bauko for their uncompromising and unrelenting support to the implementation of numerous anti-drug abuse programs, projects and activities that resulted to the realization of the 100 percent rating given by the national offices,” Mayor Akilit stressed.
He pointed out that the efforts of the local government and the private sector will not stop with the award so that individuals trying to sneak in illegal drugs in the different parts of the locality will think twice in doing so considering the very strong and passionate implementation of the anti-illegal drug interventions.
According to him, concerned stakeholders must not sit on their laurels because drug personalities are trying to look for possible ways on how to bring in drugs back in the municipality which should not happen in the first place because it was very difficult to rid the municipality on the proliferation of illegal drugs right at the start of the term of the present administration.
Akilit recognized the efforts of the MADAC members and the local government’s private sector in working extra hard to clear the municipality from the proliferation of illegal drugs because they did not want the bright future of the town’s youth to be compromised and ruined by the prevalence of illegal drugs in the municipality.
Bauko plays host to a huge portion of the over 5,000-hectare Mount Data National Park where agriculture is the main source of livelihood of the over 34,000 population that are distributed in the town’s 22 barangays. It is also considered as the larges municipality in Mountain province based on the land area and population.
Further, Bauko lso serves as the headwaters of 4 major river systems, Agno, Chico, Magat and Abra rivers, considering that it is the source of abundant water providing water supply to people living in lowland communities which are used for numerous purposes.
