LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap, in partnership with the provincial government, formally rolled out the so-called ‘Manok na Puti’ program primarily geared towards providing the people in the different parts of the province access to low-cost chicken.
The lawmaker pointed out that over 3,000 residents of Tublay, Kapangan and Kibungan initially benefited from the program where they purchased chicken at P50 only.
Yap, who now chairs the House Committee on appropriations, expressed his gratitude to the local officials and residents who supported the launching of the project amidst the prevailing threat of bird flu, thus, the need for the proper clearances from the provincial veterinary office and the municipal governments prior to the roll out of the program in the different municipalities.
Under the ‘Manok na Puti’ program, chickens will be sold to the interested residents at P50 per head with a maximum of 2 heads to be purchased by an individual where the same was bought at P70 per head and that the P20 difference will be shouldered by the congressman and the provincial government.
Congressman Yap is targeting some 10,000 chickens to be sold to the people at discounted price under the said program in the light of the further extension of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine until May 15, 2020.
He explained that the same is not a losing venture because the program aims to provide people easily access to low-cost chicken thus directly benefiting the people.
The program is another initiative of the lawmaker that comes after a series of assistance provided by his office to the residents of Benguet since the implementation of the ECQ.
Yap successfully launched the ‘mobile tulong’ program in Twin Peaks, Tuba, Benguet following his Bigas ng Bayan program for the different municipalities and other sectors of the province.
The congressman also turned over boxes of Vitamin C to senior citizens and donated various types of assistance in the form of personal protective equipment (PPEs), cash, medicines, vegetables and other essential goods to the different vulnerable and marginalized sectors of the province.
“Bukod na totoong mandato natin sa Congreso, ginusto nating maglunsad ng mga programang alam nating makakatulong sa tao dahil gusto kong maramdaman nila na kasama nila ang pamahalaan sa crisis na ito at sama-sama nating itong dadaanan at pagtatagumpayan. Hindi pa ito ang huli, marami pa tayong mga plano para sa Benguet,” Yap stressed.
He assured that while serving as the province’s caretaker, he will exert extra effort in ensuring that Benguet will have a reasonable share of the development projects being implemented by concerned government agencies to sustain the growth and development that the province was able to achieve over the past several years aside from bringing to Benguet quality public services.
