The Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc. (BFFFI) is doing its best to convince high schools and colleges in the city to allow their streetdancing contingents to actively participate in the upcoming grand opening parade, the elimination round for the streetdancing competition and the grand streetdancing parade of the 28th edition of the Panagbenga that will run from February 1 to March 3, 2024.
BFFFI chairman and former Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said that the foundation is closely working with the high schools and colleges in the city to look for ways and means by which their streetdancing contingents can join the major Panagbenga activities to allow greater participation of concerned sectors to the city’s premier crowd drawing event.
He underscored that the primary essence in the conceptualization of the flower festival as a major event of the city is the participation of the community which includes the schools for them to showcase the skills and talents of the youth in the grand streetdancing parade, a major highlight of the month-long festivities.
Domogan recognized the vital role that the schools have played in the previous staging of the flower festival because children and the students provided the sterling and dynamic performances that attracted residents and tourists alike to make it a point to witness the evolution of the festival’s grand streetdancing competition through the past two decades.
For his part, BFFFI president Frederico S. Alquiros noted that there are some conflicts in the schedule of schools during the grand opening parade and the grand streetdancing parade that is why talks are now underway on how to deal with the situation to increase the participation from the schools, especially the high school and college categories.
Initially, the participants to the grand opening parade on February 3, 2024 will be streetdancing contingents from the elementary and open categories that is why Panagbenga organizers are trying to entice the high schools and colleges to allow their streetdancing contingents to join these events to guarantee greater participation from the education sector.
According to him, another issue that the organizers and the schools are trying to work on is that the schedule of exams of the students who will be joining the streetdancing competition as the same falls within the schedule of the grand streetdancing parade based on the existing school calendar.
