BONTOC, Mountain Province – The winners of the Bontoc DRRM Skills Challenge 2022 were named after five teams competed in nine different events that test their skills in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
The events included Question and Answer, Crossing the Bridge, Bandaging Techniques, Basic carries, Collapsed Structure Rescue Operations, Basic knot-tying, Extrication and Spine board management, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, and Fire Suppression.
Team Samoki emerged as the champion and will receive a cash prize of ₱10,000. Team Poblacion will receive ₱8,000 while Team Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) will receive ₱6,000 as the 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
Meanwhile, Team Local Government Unit (LGU) and Team Upland will each receive ₱5,000 as a consolation prize.
In his message, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr. emphasized the importance of enhancing the skills of the youth in disaster preparedness and response.
He remarked that these activities will not only allow the youth to practice and refresh their skills acquired in their previous trainings but it is also an opportunity to socialize and strengthen their collaboration.
During the post-evaluation, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Johana Padaen lauded the five teams for their active participation and encouraged them to share their skills with their fellow youth.
Also, she emphasized the aim of the activity which is to enhance and evaluate the participants’ skills and knowledge of Basic Life Support and Standard First-Aid (BLS-SFA).
In response, the participants expressed their gratitude to the Bontoc LGU through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for the realization of the activity as it helped them refresh their skills and become more alert during actual emergencies.
The participants were Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and KKDAT members who requested and underwent trainings for BLS-SFA Training and Mountain Search and Rescue Training.
The facilitators are the members of the Bontoc Emergency Response Team (ERT), personnel from the Bontoc Municipal Fire Station (MFS), and Bontoc Municipal Police Station (MPS).
