TABUK CITY, Kalinga – To counter the spread of dengue, malaria, and other communicable diseases during the rainy season, the City Local Government Unit of Tabuk (CLGU), spearheaded by the City Health Services Office (CHSO), conducted a symposium on dengue, malaria and Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (PIDSR).
According to Epidemiology Assistant Celeste Mia Diasen of the CHSO, June is the celebration of the Dengue Awareness Month.
The participants include barangay kagawads in charge of health matters of their barangays, as well as midwives, hospital PIDSR point persons, among others.
“Pag June, jan na lumalabas ang pagtaas ng cases ng dengue pero other than dengue, included narin ang malaria, typhoid fever at marami pa,” she said.
Diasen also said that although Kalinga had been declared as malaria free, other provinces neighboring our own still has cases of the said disease.
“Kailangan na we should be watchful para hindi ulit tayo ma re-infect and ma-attain natin yung goal natin na Malaria Free Philippines by 2030” she said.
The PIDSR also includes other communicable diseases that must be reported in order for appropriate action to be taken to stop an outbreak.
There are a total of 26 reportable diseases, according to the epidemiology assistant, but they will focus primarily on the prevalent diseases including typhoid fever, influenza-like illnesses, COVID-19, leptospirosis, hand, foot, and mouth disease, severe bloody diarrhea, among others.
“Kaya rine-reiterate natin ito sa mga stakeholders, community, and mid-wives para ma-remind tayo to do our part and to prevent and pagdami ng cases. Kaya dapat informed and mga nasa barangay, midwives at hospitals,” she said.
