BAGUIO CITY–The Cordillera office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recognized the indispensable support of the barangays in the fight against the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement, DILG Cordillera Regional Director Marlo Iringan lauded the barangays of Lamut, Ifugao for their proactive and pre-emptive response in containing the community transmission as they set up 18 quarantine/isolation facilities for COVID-19 patients.
The barangays, with the help of the stakeholders, rehabilitated the agricultural booth in Lamut Trading Post (LATRAP) as bungalow type isolation and/or quarantine facilities which will augment the municipal government’s quarantine facility.
He said that the cooperation and collaboration of local officials with the support of the local populace is crucial in the fight against the COVID-19 crisis.
“Ensuring all COVID-19 cases are detected early is critical to achieving our number one priority: preventing and controlling local transmission, thus, this facility is a crucial asset that will help us prepare for this eventuality (local transmission),” he said.
After the pandemic, these barangay facilities will have its multi-purpose use as agricultural booths during fiestas or festivals; satellite barangay halls; venue for barangay affairs/activities; evacuation area during the pandemic/disasters or the barangays may opt to have it rented as transient house or business stalls when LATRAP is in full operation.
