TABUK CITY,Kalinga – Following the celebration of Solo Parents Month held today in Barangay Calanan, District II, solo parents have expressed their need for livelihood assistance from the city government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
During the occasion attended by 25 solo parents, Social Welfare Officer I Rhonda Vail Lappao said request for livelihood assistance is possible since solo parents are one of the priority groups who are being assisted by the office.
Lappao added that any form of livelihood is extended to either individual member or as a group, depending on the need and resources available.
The social worker explained that this type of assistance is provided through the Self Enhancement Assistance- Kaunlaran (SEA-K) program, which provides beneficiaries with seed capital that is paid back without interest after a year.
She also stated that monitoring of the firm or enterprise founded would be carried out to ensure its long-term viability.
Meanwhile, Eusebia Edduba, a Social Welfare Officer IV, recognizes the importance of single parents participating in a livelihood project since it will provide them with an additional source of income to help their families survive.
Solo parents may also benefit from the Regional Office Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Sustainable Livelihood Program, according to Edduba (DSWD).
The celebration ended with the induction of a new set of officers of District II Solo Parents officiated by Acting Vice Mayor Atty. Zorayda Wacnang whom she challenged them to perform their duties well and accomplish more activities that benefit their group.
In a message by City Mayor Darwin Estranero represented by former City Councilor Lucretina Sarol, she expressed that the current administration fully supports the activities of solo parents and their needs will be properly addressed knowing that to be a parent left solo with the responsibility of parenting entails huge challenges and sacrifices.
