TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) facilitated a farmers’ forum in Kalinga to bolster ties with the province and address the needs of local farmers.
The forum, held last February 20 in Tabuk City, Kalinga, provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration between farmers, local government units, and the agency.
Representatives from DA-CAR spearheaded discussions on vital topics such as Civil Society Organization engagements and the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture.
Additionally, Regional Agricultural Engineering Division and the banner programs outlined their target projects, programs, activities, and proposed budgets for 2025.
During breakout sessions, farmers had the opportunity to voice their preferences for agricultural inputs tailored to their specific crops. Notably, the need for diverse varieties of high-yielding, high-quality, and disease-resistant seeds for rice, corn, and other high-value crops emerged as a primary concern.
Furthermore, farmers participated in knowledge assessments to evaluate their understanding of DA-CAR’s operations and program implementations, reflecting the event’s commitment to enhancing agricultural knowledge and capacity among participants.
This activity marked the third-to-last leg of a series of forums held across the six provinces, highlighting the ongoing efforts to engage and empower farming communities in the region. By Joven B. Peralta
