In a recent visit to Baguio City, Atty. Alvin John Balagbag, the Chief of Staff (COS) of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr., took a comprehensive tour of the key agricultural establishments of the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR).
In his first stop, Balagbag checked out the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) together with the DA-CAR OIC-Regional Executive Director Atty. Jennilyn Dawayan, Regional Technical Director (RTD) for Operations Danilo Daguio, OIC-RTD for Research and Regulations Arlene Sagayo, Benguet State University President Felipe Salaing Comila, and BAPTC Chief Operations Officer Norma Banania.
Other key officials also joined Balagbag in his visit to the Maharlika Livelihood Center and the Baguio Animal Breeding and Research Center.
During the discussions, Balagbag sought ways in which the DA-Central Office, particularly under the leadership of the newly appointed Agriculture Secretary, could extend support to resolve these challenges.
Laurel, known for his commitment to revitalizing agriculture in the country, is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the concerns raised during Balagbag’s visit. The collaborative efforts between DA-CAR and the central office are crucial for ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture in the Cordillera region.
As Balagbag concluded his visit, he expressed optimism about the potential for positive changes and reiterated DA’s commitment to fostering growth and resilience in the agricultural sector. He also mentioned that the agriculture secretary is scheduled to visit sometime in January 2024. By JBPeralta
