TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. was adopted as son of the province and named “Ammogawon” during the Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) Anniversary celebration at the Kalinga Sports Center on Friday, June 14.
Abalos was adopted and conferred the title of “pangat” (leader) through the conduct of the “gammid”, Kalinga’s traditional rite of recognizing and accepting someone as a child.
Under Sangguniang Panlalawigan resolution no. 2024-163 which formalizes his adoption, Abalos is granted all the privileges of a son of the province, including his protection under the umbrella of the Bodong justice system.
Following his adoption, Abalos expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kalinga, saying the honor, trust and acceptance fueled his dedication to serve with integrity, respect and unwavering commitment. By Rod Asurin
