TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In his remarks at the second quarter meeting of the City Health Board held on May 24, City Mayor Darwin Estrañero made good on a promise he made during his campaign to increase the incentives for the city’s registered and certified Barangay Health Workers (BHWs).
City Ordinance No. 001-2020, provided a monthly allowance of P500.00 and a monthly honorarium of P1,500.00 to the BHWs, and the City Mayor promised an increase in the monthly honorarium to P3,000.00.
“Why not provide this assistance in its entirety?”Estrañero questioned the BHW’s monthly honorarium’s yearly 10% increase.
According to Ordinance No. 06-2022, the CLGU shall increase the monthly honorarium and allowance by at least 10% annually, up to a maximum of P3,000.00 for accredited BHW and P2,000.00 for registered BHW.
Said amendments of the ordinance were referred to the Sangguniang Panlungsod – Committee on Health, chaired by Councilor Ivan Yannick Bagayao.
The City Mayor has given the BHWs in the city a total of P8.9M in subsidies this year as a show of solidarity. They were given P8.73M for monthly incentives and P180K for retiree incentives out of the entire budget.
They would have greater access to tools and opportunities for advancing their personal and professional growth as a result of the aforementioned changes to the BHW honorarium.
