MALATE, Manila – Herald Express added another feather on its cap after being adjudged as the outstanding community newspaper weekly category in the 1st Best Health Innovation and Collaboration Reporting during the 60th anniversary of the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) held at the Century Park Hotel here Thursday afternoon.
The newest addition to the categories of the Annual Awards of the PPI’s National Press Forum (NFP) was part of the innovation introduced by the PPI, the national association of newspapers, in partnership with the Pharmaceutical and Health Care Association of the Philippines (PPI).
The Daily Guardian won the outstanding community newspaper daily category of the said awards. That will form part of the organization’s annual big event.
Dexter A. See of Herald Express was adjudged as a finalist in the individual community journalist category while Gloria Hamada of the Baguio Midland Courier was adjudged as the outstanding community journalist in the same category. Francis Allan Angelo of the Iloilo-based Daily Guardian also emerged as a finalist in the individual category.
In the daily category, Minda News won the award while Palawan News was declared the winner in the weekly category.
Further, herald Express was also adjudged as a finalist in the 1st PPI-Novartis Think Pink Awards on Outstanding Stories on Breast Cancer while Hiyas D. Ocampo of Minda News was declared the winner in the said newest category that will be part of the annual PPI Awards Night.
Panay News won the Best in Reporting on Migration Issues daily category while Samar Weekly Express Visayas was adjudged the winner in the weekly category.
Sun Star Davao bagged the Best in Photojournalism daily category while the Cagayan-based The Northern Forum was selected as the winner in the weekly category.
For the Best in Environmental Reporting, Sunstar Davao won in the daily category while the Baguio Chronicle won in the weekly category.
Panay News was adjudged the winner in the Best and Business and Economic Reporting daily category while Central Mindanao NewsWatch won in the weekly category.
Moreover, Panay News won the Best in Editorial Page daily category while the Dumaguete-based Metro Post emerged victorious in the weekly category.
Palawan news won the Best News Website in Luzon, Sun Star Cebu also got the same award in Visayas while Mindanao Times won the similar award for Mindanao.
The Cebu-based The Freeman went home with the Best Edited Community Paper daily category while the Dagupan-based Sunday Punch won the same award in the weekly category.
Herald Express also won a special award as Best Photos and Stories Exhibit on health while the award for the Best Regional Booth was collared by the Visayas booth.
