The Municipal Local Government Unit of Kapangan and the Department of Social Welfare and Development inaugurated its farm-to-market road (FMR) sub-project in Gasweling, Kapangan, Benguet on April 20, 2018.
The farm-to-market road is nearly one (1) kilometer and is worth more than 3.7 Million. The sub-project is funded under the first and second cycle of DSWD Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) with counterparts from the MLGU Kapangan.
Gasweling is one of the 15 barangays of Kapangan prioritized under the said program. It is expected that 122 household will directly benefit from the FMR.
Punong Barangay Ulyses O. Bugtong remarked that since they started using the newly improved FMR, transportation of their products became faster and easier. “Even bringing patients to health stations during emergencies is not a big problem anymore,” he added.
The community volunteers who facilitated the sub-project since its identification until its completion thanked the local government officials and DSWD for helping them achieve their dream of a better community. They also shared that through the different activities and trainings they attended since 2015, they can now stand and speak in front of a crowd.
Meanwhile Kapangan Mayor Manny Fermin, who attended the activity with other Municipal officials and employees, lauded the community for undertaking the sub-project since it started. “Now that your FMR is completed, I enjoin you all to take care of it,” he added.
Engineer Gemmuel Daria, Regional Community Infrastructure Specialist of the DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS also reminded the community to apply what they learned in managing community projects. He then urged them not to lose their unity as a community.
Aside from Gasweling, Barangays Boklaoan, Pudong, Beleng-Belis, Gadang, Saguibo, Cuba, Pongayan, Labueg, Balakbak, Taba-ao implemented the DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS. For its first and second cycle implementation, the program has given a total amount of more than 15.9 Million fund to assist the barangays in building their prioritized community projects.
