BAGUIO CITY – City officials extended their congratulations and commendation to a local youth leader for his exemplary achievement as the Most Outstanding Delegate during the Asia World Model United nations (AWMUN) II held at Prince Palace Hotel and Windsor Suites Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand from January 30 to February 2, 2019.
Resolution No. 039, series of 2019 was personally handed by city officials led by Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan to recipient Jef Mitzel Bulaon Paran, one of the promising youth leaders in the city.
Paran is an incumbent Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad of barangay Trancoville, a diligent Grade 12 student of the University of Baguio–Science High School and a former Scout Councilor during the 2018 Scout Official-for-a-Day (SOFAD), one of the youth-related programs of the local government that has been on-going over the past several decades.
The resolution noted that the very active Paran, a fixed-delegate to the AWMUN under the World Trade Organization, was awarded the Most Outstanding Delegate during the aforesaid event.
“His (Paran) achievement sets an example for the youth to emulate and merits the utmost recognition and praise from the city government of Baguio,” the resolution stated.
AWMUN is a platform for developing youth mentality in leadership, negotiation and diplomacy in the model United Nations.
Further, AWMUN aims to engage youth leaders from all over the world and to provide a platform to share perspectives and opinions with the theme “The World’s Dilemma: Enhancing World Action on Climate Change,” thus, AWMUN is the right place to enhance capabilities and encourage young leaders to develop networks, and improve their communication and diplomatic skills.
Out of 25,467 applicants from the different parts of the world, 1,326 attended the AWMUN II Convention with the theme “Be the Leader the World Needs” held in Bangkok, Thailand last month.
Domogan claimed Paran’s performance in the international gathering is definitely worthy of emulation by the youth leaders in the city and he has shown the world that Baguio youth leaders have a place in international gatherings owing to the present foundation that the city’s youth is being provided in terms of exposure and other available training to hone their leadership skills and knowledge.
He urged the city’s youth to continue seizing available opportunities that ensures their additional exposure to gatherings as platforms for the recognition of their leadership among attributes that continue to bring honor and pride to the city.
The local chief executive reiterated his reminders to the youth for them to shy away from vices that might compromise their future, but instead, embrace all opportunities to enhance their leadership skills and knowledge and help bring them to their desired fields of expertise considering the availability of vast tracks of opportunities in the global village.
