MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government is hopeful that the State-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) will pass upon the property that was earlier identified by the municipal government as the site for the proposed put up of a state-of-the-art evacuation center that will improving the implementation of an effective and efficient disaster risk reduction and management response.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong and personnel of the municipal government recently conducted an ocular inspection of the proposed site of the evacuation center at Sitio Bayoyo, Barangay Tabio to evaluate and assess the necessary interventions that have to be introduced by the municipality as its counterpart for the evacuation center.
Earlier, PAGCOR personnel visited the municipality to inspect the site identified by the municipality as a site for the proposed evacuation center it intends to fund through the initiative of Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap who made the representation with PAGCOR to provide the funds for the said project.
Mayor Ayong claimed that the 2,000-square meter property will be acquired by the municipal government as its counterpart for the project.
He added that the municipal government will continue to introduce improvements within the 40×50-meter property to ensure it will be suitable for the proposed evacuation center once PAGCOR approves the funds.
According to him, the municipal government will be lucky once PAGCOR grants the request of Congressman Yap to provide the funds for the put up of the evacuation center because this will be an additional evacuation facility in the municipality for the residents who will be impacted by natural and human-induced calamities.
The municipal chief executive disclosed that aside from serving as evacuation center during calamities, the facility will also serve as a multipurpose center, especially in hosting training for responders and volunteers to enhance their disaster responsiveness.
Ayong expressed his gratitude to Congressman Yap for heeding the call of the municipal government in sourcing out funds for the put up of an evacuation center in the municipality for the benefit of people in and out of the locality who will be needing the facility for various purposes. By HENT
