MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government will be providing immediate assistance to some 300 employees of the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMC) who are on mass leave to allow their families to cope with the prevailing crisis situation aggravated by their being jobless temporarily.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong said the local government will try to stretch its available resources to generate available immediate assistance as aid to the affected mine workers.
He added there are some food packs from Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap for distribution to the affected mine workers as the municipal government’s immediate assistance to them while awaiting the resumption of their work.
Earlier, the municipal government distributed half cavan of rice to a total of 1,545 members of the Lepanto Employees Union (LEU) and the Lepanto Local Staff Union (LOSU) as assistance as they had also been heavily impacted by the measures taken to contain the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Ayong assured that the municipal government will continue to find ways of how to provide immediate assistance to residents heavily impacted by the strict implementation of community quarantine guidelines to combat the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 to help in mitigating the negative effect of the restrictions in the movement of people to their economic activities and sources of livelihood.
He appealed to beneficiaries of the immediate assistance being provided by the municipality as efforts are being done to extend whatever available assistance to mitigate the effects of the community quarantine to the economic activities and sources of livelihood of the people in the different barangays.
According to him, the effect of the community quarantine to the lives of people has been enormous as many have lost their jobs and their other sources of livelihood thus it is equally important for concerned government agencies and the municipal government to look for ways on how to help the people recover from the slump caused by the global pandemic.
He assured that Mankayan officials will continue to remain steadfast in looking after the welfare of their constituents amidst the serious negative impact of the community quarantine because what matters is the general welfare of the people living in the different communities. By HENT
