MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government is currently pooling information and technology (IT personnel to help beef up the ton’s bid to embrace the onset of the digital get for the benefit of the present and the future generations of inhabitants.
Mayor Frenzel Ayong said that the local government is initially gaining ground on its efforts to pool people with knowledge and skills on the information technology by hiring some of them aside from allowing them to undergo the recent trainings offered by the Department on Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and the municipality to boost the presence of internet-based entrepreneurs in the different barangays.
“We know that we will have a difficult time taking hold of people with skills and knowledge on information and communication technology but we will try our best to work with what is available so that we will be able to achieve our primary goals and objectives of working towards the digital age, especially the challenges that will confront us in our bid to do so,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
The local chief executive said that information technology is the way to go in the present times that is why we have to be ready to confront the challenges by the rapid advancement of information and communication technology and its effects to the delivery of services to our constituents.
According to him, some of the IT people that the local government was able to hire are already doing well and that they are able to cascade to their fellow workers their skills and knowledge as part of the efforts of the municipality to capacitate the current work force in time for the programmed computerization of the existing services pursuant to the law on the Ease of Doing Business.
Earlier, the municipal government, the DICT, Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company and Far Southeast Gold Resources, Inc. partnered in the sustainable conduct of internet-based entrepreneurship training to inserted member of the marginalized sector for them to be able to acquire the needed skills and knowledge for them to work at home and become productive citizens of the municipality.
The partnership was initiated through the efforts of Mayor Ayong and the concerned IT personnel who have been emphasizing on the importance of bringing the municipality closer to embracing the onset of the digital age even if there are existing problems on the internet connectivity in the remote areas of the municipality.
Initially, there some 15 beneficiaries of the local government’s internet-based entrepreneurship program who will serve the future trainers in the implementation of the program that is designed to equip interested members of the marginalized sector from the different barangays who want to be productive while working in their homes and doing household chores that will help in improving the living condition of their families.
Ayong assured concerned stakeholders in the different barangays that the local government will continue to partner with concerned government agencies, private sector partners and other local governments to improve the delivery of its services to the grassroots level for them to be able to feel the presence of government in their midst.
