Over the course of three days, at least 1,600 community frontliners from the Municipalities of Itogon, Kapangan, and Tublay received timely aid from the offices of Senator Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano this week.
From February 24 to 26, 2024, the senators’ teams provided help in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD CAR) through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program.
Most of the beneficiaries were barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, daycare workers, members of a women’s group, and local members of their Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA).
Medical assistance desks in the three municipalities were also set up during the handover of assistance to cater to residents with health needs.
The first stop was at the Benguet Evacuation Center in Itogon on Friday. With the help of Itogon Mayor Bernard Waclin and DSWD Social Worker Carolyn Bayungan, the senators’ team extended assistance to 500 frontliners.
The next day, the team visited Kapangan to help 500 volunteers and frontliners.
The successful disbursement was done at the Kapangan Covered Court with the help of Kapangan Mayor Manny Fermin, Vice Mayor Mayo Islay, Councilor Harris Dizon, and DSWD Social Worker Angeline Fagsaw.
Tessie Sua, one of the beneficiaries from the Kapangan event who earns a living through a sari-sari store, said the senators’ help was timely for the school needs of her children.
“Minsan kaunti lang, minsan meron namang kita. Minsan wala kaming natatabi sa kita sa isang araw dahil inilalaan ito sa pang eskwela ng aking mga anak,” Sua, a mother of four, said on Saturday, February 25.
“Maraming salamat po kila Senador Alan at Pia sa pagbibigay sa amin na assistance para sa allowance ng mga bata,” she added.
On Monday, February 26, the team went to Tublay to give assistance to 600 frontline workers at the Tublay Multipurpose Gym.
This was accomplished with the help of Tublay Vice Mayor Juan Esnara, Councilor Marvin Mayos, and DSWD Social Worker Angeline Fagsaw.
Benguet province is one of the places frequented by the Cayetanos through their Bayanihan Caravan, which seeks to give medical, burial, and livelihood assistance to residents and communities in need.
