In line with the Arbor Day Act of 2012, the Mountain Province government offices by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), conducted a tree planting activity on June 4, 2024, in Otucan Breeding Center..
The Arbor Day Act of 2012 also known as Republic Act (RA) No. 10176, authorizes local government units (LGUs) the responsibility to turn tree planting into an annual tradition. .
Arbor Day serves as a national reminder of the importance of trees and our responsibility to protect the environment. It is a day dedicated to giving back to nature by planting new trees, caring for the existing trees, and raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment.
Through this activity, the PENRO ensures responsibility for sustainable development, utilization and management of our natural resources, and maintenance of ecological balance within the province. Faith Pec-ao, Office of the Provincial Agriculture Agriculturist II, shared that they always voluntarily participate in tree planting every year as it also gives shelter to animals.
Pec-ao added that the tree planting activity is a great way to help the environment and ensure that everyone can breathe fresh air.
Dariel Gina F. Olong, one of the citizens in Mountain Province, shared this sentiment, “Planting trees has a lot of benefits in our community just like the oxygen that they give off that help us breathe.”
Despite the increase of carbon dioxide. It provides tree habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.
Olong added that she will volunteer for tree planting activity in Mountain province so that she can help the environment.
Furthermore, Mario Seldon, OPAG Agriculturist 1, said “It is good to plant some trees and fruits because it can give us relaxation and stress relief, by providing us a good view.”
With the Mountain Province government taking the lead in the initiative and residents actively participating, this event serves as a collaborative effort towards a greener future for the region.
