BAGUIO CITY,(PIA) – – The Office of Civil Defense Cordillera regional office, in simple ceremonies gives, gives recognition to their Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) partners for being regional Gawad Kalasag awardees.
Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan sa Sariling Galing ang Kagtasan), is anuuan recognition given to individuals, non-government organizations, private sector and government organizations, in recognition of their initiative in helping the government uplift the standard of disaster management in the country.
For Cordillera, the 2014 Gawad Kalasag regional awardees are the municipality of La Trinidad Benguet for the best local DRRM Council, the Baguio City Emergency Management Service (BCEMS) for government emergency management Basic Search and Rescue category, the Baguio – Benguet Public Information and Civic Action Group (BBPICAG) for for private volunteer group and the University of Cordilleras for Best school private/urban category.
Each regional awardee is set to receive the Gawad Kalasag plaque of recognition and P50,000 cash prize each and were all entries for the National Gawad Kalasag tilt, which validation is currently on-going.
OCD Regional Director and Cordillera Regional DRRM Council chair Andrew Alex Uy, in handing the award to BCEMS chief and Medical Director John Tinoyan at the OCD Regional Office early today, lauded the group for being always ready to help people and calls for a stronger partnership in DRRM efforts for more years to come.
Uy also highlighted the importance of continuing partnership between the CDRRMC and all the LGU and private emergency response and DRRM groups like the BCEMS, in the government’s effort to achieve zero-casualty during time of disaster and emergencies.
Tinoyan, for the BCEMS part also thanked OCD for their continuing support, as he also assured continuing and better services to the people.
La Trinidad Mayor Edna Tabanda received the Gawad Kalasag award at her office yesterday, while the BBPICAG is set to received their award this afternoon at the OCD Regional Office. OCD will also go to UC tomorrow to bring their Gawad Kalasag award. (CCD – PIA CAR)
