BAGUIO CITY – The City Council approved a resolution requesting the city government to include the existing Pacdal Covered Court in the proposed modernization of the Gibraltar Satellite Market to help provide residents in the Barangays of District I and II an alternative place to do their market activities, among other purposes.
The action of the city legislative body came after the punong barangays of the two districts appeared before its regular session last Monday to express their support to the officer of Pacdal Barangay for the use of its existing covered court as the expansion site of the Gibraltar Satellite Market which has been programmed to undergo rehabilitation and upgrading as one of the modern satellite markets in the city.
Earlier, the city government programmed the amount of P40 million for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Gibraltar Satellite Market for implementation after the same was included as part of the city government’s annual budget last year.
The punong barangays who expressed their support for the inclusion of the Pacdal covered court in the expansion of the Gibraltar satellite market were Nemesio Huag of Gibraltar, Abraham Lagsaca of Pacdal, Ricardo Mendoza of Pucsusan, Rolando Cayat of Mines View, Jon P. Dongla of St. Joseph Village, Miguel Arnaiz of Outlook Drive, Maribel Cagalwan of South Drive, Enrique Lindaoan of Lucnab, Julius Ampal of Lualhati, David Bayagen of Country Club Village and Joseph Sacley of Happy Hallow.
The resolution also requested the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) to prepare the program of work, plans and specifications of the project to allow the city government to source out the required funds to continue the expansion of the Gibraltar Satellite Market.
The impending development of the Gibraltar Satellite Market will jumpstart the city government’s program to rehabilitate and upgrade exiting satellite markets to entice residents to patronize the said facilities instead of contributing to the congestion of the city public market and to allow the spread of the economic activities in the sites of satellite markets around the city.
Aside from facilitating the modernization of the city public market right at the heart of the city, the city government also embarked on the improvement of existing satellite markets using available city funds to ensure their continuous development and conformity with the prevailing standards of satellite markets to serve residents within the vicinity of such markets.
Based on the statements of the punong barangays who supported the project, the Pacdal Satellite Market will serve as an expansion of the Gibraltar Satellite Market with additional stalls and parking area for those wanting to transact businesses in the said public facility.
Further, the conversion of the Pacdal Covered Court as an expansion site of the Gibraltar Satellite Market has been subjected to consultations with residents in the said barangay who expressed their support to the plan as there are two covered courts in the said barangay.
