LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is being eyed by Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap as the possible source of funds to rehabilitate and upgrade the covered court within the Wangal Sports Complex and convert the same into a suitable playing court for indoor games.
Yap said he met with PAGCOR Chairperson Andrea Domingo to discuss the various programs and projects of the gaming corporation that can benefit the people of Benguet with one of the projects he will be requesting the corporation to fund is the improvement of the existing covered court within the Wangal Sports Complex to enable the province to host crowd-drawing sports events thus promoting the province’s robust tourism industry.
Earlier, the Benguet caretaker congressman assured provincial and municipal officials during his first visit to the province last January after he was appointed by House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano as the congressman-in charge of Benguet that he will try his best to source out funds for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the covered court within the Wangal Sports Complex to serve as a venue for various sports events that will help in promoting the province as a potential venue for prestigious city, regional, national and even international indoor sports events.
However, Yap, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Games and Amusements, said that with regards the possible overall development of the track oval and other sports facilities within the Wangal Sports Complex, he will try his best to look for other possible sources of funds to continue the improvement of the sports center to augment existing sports facilities in Baguio City that will allow both Baguio and Benguet to host prestigious national sports competitions.
He also requested the provincial government to segregate a parcel of land within the Wangal Sports Complex to serve as an area where the Team Lakay can establish its permanent gymnasium as a training venue for upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) talents who will bring honor and pride not only to the province but also to the whole country.
The neophyte lawmaker lauded the members of the Team Lakay for having placed Benguet and the Cordillera in the map as the producers of warriors in the octagon and that the same should serve as an inspiration to young and upcoming MMA talents to follow their footsteps by sustaining the legacy, thus the need to establish a permanent Team Lakay MMA gymnasium right within the sports center to serve as the training ground of the upcoming MMA enthusiasts.
Yap assured the people and officialdom of the province he will exert extra effort to source out the needed resources from concerned government agencies to continue the development that had been started in the different parts of the province and to make it a well-developed province with scenic tourist attractions.
