SAN GABRIEL, La Union — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Region 1, along with the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO), busted a 1,950 square-meter marijuana plantation here on November 7.
According to PDEA Ilocos Regional Director Joel Plaza, around 10,500 pieces of marijuana seedlings and 8,500 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants were uprooted and destroyed during the joint operations of local authorities conducted at Sitio Nakawa in Lon-oy village on the morning of Tuesday.
The destroyed marijuana seedlings and plants have an estimated worth of P2,120,000 which were all burned onsite during the operation.
Further, Maripe De Guzman, regional information officer of PDEA, said in an interview on November 9 that no suspect was arrested during the operation.
“Yes, we already have an identified suspect but the identity is still conducting thorough verification,” De Guzman said.
The liable individual will face charges for the violation of Section 16 of Article 2 of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022.
