LA TRINIDAD, Benguet– The municipal government continues to gain numerous awards for its various programs and projects, the latest of which is its voluntarism initiatives that recently gained recognition not only from concerned government agencies and the House of Representatives.
The Philippine National Volunteers Service Coordinating Agency (PNSCA) recognized the La Trinidad municipal government as one of the outstanding volunteers in the municipal level category during the awarding of this year’s Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) held in Metro Manila recently.
La Trinidad, a barangay from Ilocos Sur and Mandaluyong City were among the first local governments that were recognized when the PNVSCA launched the local government category for the annual Search for Outstanding Volunteers.
The local government was also recognized by the House committee on peoples participation chaired by Rep. Florida Robes.
La Trinidad was recognized for its initiative to provide volunteering platforms that will enable the residents to actively participate in disaster risk reduction and management programs through the La Trinidad accredited community disaster volunteers, for pioneering the one respondent per household projects to ensure community resilience during disasters and other man-made calamities and for engaging volunteers in the conduct of medical and dental missions, cleanup campaigns and major events for the municipality and the province.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda disclosed that all barangay tanods, barangay peacekeeping action teams, schools and other non-government organizations who are interested to render volunteer work are duly accredited in the municipality and that there is a significant increase in the number of individuals interested to render volunteer work dramatically increase.
He added that the municipality is also open to foreign volunteers through the Peace Corps volunteers who had been serving the locality way back in 2013.
“We credit the work of our volunteers on why we were able to be recognized for the voluntarism award. We hope that the award will serve as our inspiration to our constituents to continue rendering volunteer work not only during emergency and calamity situations but also in the conduct of our different outreach programs,” Mayor Salda stressed.
Salda expressed his gratitude to the increasing number of volunteers in the municipality who want to render voluntary services during emergency situations, onslaught of natural and man-made calamities, conduct of medical and dental missions, sports events, and crowd drawing activities where their services are needed to augment the manpower of concerned government agencies, the police force and the local government.
He claimed that the local government still welcomes interested individuals and groups wanting to serve as volunteers of the municipality, provided that, they comply with the prescribed rules and regulations for their accreditation so that they will be governed by a set of rules when rendering volunteer work during different situations in the municipality and the province as a whole.
