BAGUIO CITY – The City Council approved a resolution requesting the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) the City Engineering Office (CEO) and the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) to jointly prepare the lighting plan of the 34-hectare Burnham Park complex to guarantee the safety and security of park users and ensure the illumination of the public place at night for future recreational purposes.
The resolution follows the earlier letter sent by BENECO management stating, among others, that it is willing to provide some 111 poles with some 70 high pressure sodium bulbs in strategic portions of the park to increase the illumination of the park’s unlighted areas.
Under BENECO’s offer, the rural electric cooperative will shoulder the installation of the poles and the bulbs, estimated to cost over P3.9 million, while the local government will shoulder the over P30,000 monthly consumption of the bulbs.
Aside from requesting the joint preparation of the Burnham Park lighting plan by the concerned offices, the local legislative body also reiterated the city’s previous request that the bulbs to be installed should be Light Emitting Diode (LED) to guarantee efficiency in providing the illumination and cheaper power consumption.
The resolution urged the concerned offices to fastrack the preparation of the lighting plan for implementation before the end of the year in time for the Yuletide season.
Further, the local legislative body also expressed its gratitude to BENECO for its commitment to help the city implement various illumination projects in the city’s public places.
Among the strategic areas in Burnham Park proposed to be lighted include the Baguio Athletic Bowl, skating rink, children’s playground, boating area, Melvin Jones football ground, Rose Garden and other public gathering places.
The approved resolution will be forwarded to the relevant offices after the mayor signs the same so that preparations could be done for the immediate completion of the desired lighting plan for the city’s premier park.
BENECO has been the constant partner of the local government in the implementation of numerous projects to illuminate the different public parks and places around the city help increase night events to said places.
