ITOGON, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap vowed to work out the construction of some thirteen multi-purpose centers in the different parts of the province as a convergence area of the public and sports center for the youth to hone their skills in team sports.
Yap, chair the House Committee on Appropriations, said the construction of the multipurpose centers will be coursed through the concerned government agencies so that the said project will be realized next year for each municipality to have a convergence area.
The lawmaker pointed out one of his priority projects in the province is to facilitate the construction of the multipurpose centers to allow the public to have convergence area where they could hold gatherings, and for the youth to have a common venue for their sports competitions that will allow them to excel in the different team sports during the conduct of local, regional and national sports competitions.
Congressman Yap continues to visit the different remote communities in the province to consult with municipal and barangay officials and the people in the said villages to be appraised of their priority needs so that he can make the proper representation with government agencies to fund priority development programs and projects, aside from enhancing the delivery of basic services in the said areas.
He claimed that aside from launching the youth assistance program, a scholarship program for deserving youth from the province’s 140 barangays, he also wants the youth to be actively involved in sports thus he is working out the funding for the construction of the 13 multipurpose convergence centers to entice the youngsters in the province to embrace sports as one of their priorities and to develop young talents among them who can represent the province in future sports competitions.
According to him, people in the province should feel the presence of government in their midst thus he wants to show to them the new brand of public service where it is the government that is bringing the services to the grassroots level and not the people going to the government to seek for help as is usually done.
Congressman Yap underscored that people from the remote villages of the province should not be burdened in going to the urban centers where the provincial or regional offices of government agencies are based just to avail of services, but it should be the government that should bring its services in the countryside to avoid unnecessary expenses and waste of time of the people in having to travel for several hours just to get such services from the responsible offices.
The caretaker congressman said that for as long as he is the province’s congressman, he will continue making the visits to the remote areas to continue consulting with the people and get from them their issues and concerns that must be given the necessary action by the government agencies.
