BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan urged the persons with disabilities (PWD) sector in the city to strengthen and enhance the implementation of their programs, projects and activities to promote the welfare of the PWDs and the members of their families for them to be active partners of the local government in sustaining the city’s robust growth and development.
Domogan made the appeal to the PWD sector during the induction of the first set of officers of the Baguio City Federation of Persons with Disabilities held at the City Mayor’s Office late Monday afternoon where the local chief executive served as the inducting officer.
He shelled out P10,000 from his discretionary fund as a seed money for the organization while Councilors Edgar Avila and Arthur Alad-iw shelled out P5,000 each to augment the initial funds of the group earmarked for the implementation of their planned programs, projects and activities.
“We appeal to the officers and members of the PWD federation to ensure that your planned programs and projects will translate to the welfare of the PWDs in the city. We value the contribution of the PWDs in helping in the growth and development of the city through their skills and knowledge that is why we have to fully support the advancement of the PWD sector,” Domogan stressed.
The newly inducted officers of the Baguio City Federation of Persons with Disabilities are John Paredes – president, Jerry Lingaling – vice president, Rowena F. Bagnas – secretary, Magdalena Gonzaga – treasurer, Estella Florendo – auditor, Avelino Tomas – public relations officer, Jennifer Fernandez, Raquel Corpuz, Kristhine Rulloda and Warlito Soriano – business managers and Gabriel Adiwan – interpreter.
The organization of the Baguio City Federation of Persons with Disabilities (BCPWDs) is in time for the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 2, 2018 with the city taking part in the worldwide celebration.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Betty F. Fangasan and other officials and personnel of the said office witnessed the oathtaking of the new set of officers of the BCFPWD.
Domogan assured the BCFPWD officers and members the local government fully supports the group’s programs, projects and activities, especially those geared towards promoting and advancing the interest of the PWD sector, so that PWDs will not be marginalized and discriminated as members of society.
According to him, government agencies and the local government need to tap the talents and skills of the PWDs in the city for them to contribute in perking up the city’s growth and development because the PWDs are integral part of society.
The city official rallied the group to closely work with the City Social Welfare and Development Office to align their proposed programs, projects and activities that will help in aggressively promoting the PWD sector as one of the catalysts of development in the city in the coming years.
