Vice President Leni Robredo received the red carpet treatment on her visit to Roxas City on Tuesday, February 15, as she began a two-day barnstorm of Panay Island.
Roxas City residents came in full force, cheering as her motorcade made its way from the airport to the Archbishop’s Palace, where she met with Diocesan Administrator Monsignor Cyril Villareal. She then proceeded to the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center, where she met with members of the Robredo People’s Council from all over Capiz.
Wala bahid sang korapsyon. garantisado nga masaligan kag nagaulingag gid sa aton,” said Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas as he introduced Robredo.
[In 2016, more than 50,558 of the residents of Roxas City supported her and she won the vice presidency. In the span of six years of her service, her record is clean. There is no hint of corruption. It is guaranteed that she can be trusted and that she cares for us.]
Robredo, in her message to the RPC volunteers, recalled the support she received from the city in 2016 and the assistance provided by her office to the city and the province.
The Vice President recalled the programs of Angat Buhay in the province of Capiz, such as the farm equipment given to the farmers of Panitan, the livelihood assistance given to fisherfolk in Roxas City, and the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) relief efforts after typhoon Ursula in 2019. She also mentioned the two community learning hubs established by OVP and the PPEs and medical supplies delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dadivas affirmed the support from OVP, saying: “Sya isa ka babayi nga sa tion sang krisis nangin mabakud nga sandigan.
[She is a woman who, at the time of crisis, we could rely on/lean on, from her quick response to typhoons up to her effective COVID-19 response.]
Robredo reminded Capizeños of what is at stake, and shared her vision of what a government should be.
