The City Social Welfare and Development Office and Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs will be celebrating its 14th year Elderly Month celebration on October with the theme, “Pagmamahal at RespetongNakababata, NakapagpaligayasaNakatatanda”. This will be a whole month activity for all the senior citizens of Baguio City.
In Partnership with the Baguio Elderly Assembly (BEA), Federation of Baguio Senior Citizen Association (FBASECA), Philippine Government Retirees Association (PGRA), Blessed Association of Relfred Persons (BARP), and the Baguio Veterans District, United Armed Forces in the Philippines-Northern Luzon (USAFIP-NL)
“The Baguio is the only City in the whole Philippines celebrating the Senior Citizens activity for one month” said Narciso Padilla (BARP Pres.)
This whole month celebration of the senior citizens is in consonance with the Presidential Decree Proclamation in 1976 designating the first week of October as the senior citizen’s week.
But then on the year 2002 Former City Mayor Vergara approved the senior citizen week to be celebrated for one month. And now it was on its 14 years celebrating the senior citizen’s activity for the whole month of October. For the record there are 119 organized Baguio senior citizen association in all the Barangay of Baguio City.
The activities lined up for the October Fest of Senior Citizens will be on October 3 is the announcing the Senior Citizens Official For A Day (SCOFAD), October 4 is the opening program and parade, and the awarding of the outstanding senior citizens and the recognition of the 4 centenarian awardees held at the Convention Center, Oct. 5 is the Ecumenical Thanks Giving service to be held at Baguio Multi-Purpose Hall facilitated by the FBASECA, Oct 8 is the senior citizens Palaro at the Melvin Jones to be headed by PGRA, Oct 10-15 is the Photo Exhibit of all senior citizens organizations at Baguio City Hall, Oct 12 will be the forum of the elderly at the , Oct 18 is the Medical and Dental Mission at the Convention Center headed by BARP Foundation, Oct 26 is the PistasaNayon, crowning of Lakan and Lakambini and cultural presentation still at the Convention Center, Oct 29 closing program and the GintongTala Award at the BARP Foundation Auditorium 12 best senior citizen will be recognized.
As has been presented by the OCSWDO there are more than 36 thousand senior citizens in the city and 898 has been receiving an amount of 500 pesos pension per month from the DSWD and processing 537 on the waiting list.
