PASAY CITY – Michael Miller Picat, a college instructor at the Saint Louis College of Bulanao (SLCB) recently gained overnight recognition when he became the lone awardee from the Cordillera region to the prestigious Gawad Tugatog award conferred to him on August 26, 2023 in Pasay City.
In an interview, Picat described how he had his sights set on the prize and searched via several internet resources to participate until discovering a website and attempted to contact one of the participants there.
“At that point, I wanted to compete, and my advantage was that I had two published researches, and I had taken part in six webinars, four training sessions, and five academic seminars,” he added.
His two published research articles, “Contextualization of Indigenous Peoples Education in Physical Education in the Private Schools” and “Factors affecting the academic performance of Grade 11 students in General Mathematics in Tabuk City,” which are used by the school in reference to teaching, aside from the training sessions on research constitute, were mentioned when asked about his greatest contribution or accomplishment in the SLCB.
Asked about the impact of the award on his personal and professional life, Picat had this to say.
“I consider it a privilege and an honor. It is a professional growth since only a few educators get to be recognized by this awarding body. My triumph may also inspire other educators to give their best in their work”.
Picat, a research editor, lecturer, and graduate school secretary at SLCB, intends to use this national award to motivate other Kalinga teachers. His intention is to support, encourage, and help teachers to continue doing what they do best, which is involving and improving the lives of children.
