Now On the second year of its full implementation of providing scholarship to deserving students from its host communities, SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) welcomed 13 new college scholars from the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, and Isabela for the school year 2019-2020.
Under the Bridging Gaps in Higher Education through Tertiary Scholarships (BRIGHTS) scholarship program, each scholar receives funding primarily to defray tuition and school fees. The remaining fund covers scholars’ living and study expenses, such as room and board, books, uniform, and other school-related needs. On her/his graduation year, the scholar is also entitled to receive partial funding for graduation fees.
“As part of SNAP’s commitment to power positive change, we partner with parents and educators to develop a well-rounded future leader. I urge these students to commit to achieving their dreams and at the same time contribute to the greater good through participation in SNAP’s various corporate outreach programs for the communities and the environment,” remarked Mike Hosillos, SNAP Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.
Isabela State University President Ricmar Aquino said they are thankful for the program, saying, “together with the best education that we provide, we thank SNAP for its commitment to providing financial assistance to poor but deserving students.”
Since the roll out of the BRIGHTS program in 2017, SNAP has been supporting the education of 55 college students in its host communities and has already produced eight graduates.
SNAP Group is a joint venture between SN Power of Norway and AboitizPower. It supplies clean, renewable, and dependable energy through the operation of the 105-megawatt (MW) Ambuklao hydro, and the 140-MW Binga hydro in the province of Benguet. SNAP also operates the 8.5-megawatt Maris hydro in Isabela, as well as the newly uprated 360- to 388-MW Magat hydro on the border of Isabela and Ifugao.
