BAGUIO CITY- ST. Andrews long wait from the dug-out paid off winning their game debut in the 14th Y’Cup for bracket “Y” in last Monday’s, August 14, 2017, manhandling Filambri 99-84.
St. Andrews strategically penetrating the paint did well to deny Filambri’s defense that resulted in a 20-16 run to erect a with a four point deficit after the first quarter action. Filambri came back in the second on their defensive strategies along with Julius Supnet and Ceejay Sanklyn doing the chores of scoring for the team.
St. Andrew, however, held forth with the better control of the boards to still occupy the driver’s seat, 48-40, at halftime.
Third quarter action came in with St. Andrews in control of the game and posting a 24-18 blast that told the tale of the game as they continued to pound Filambri with big basket conversions until the last second of the third, 73-58.
They coasted in the fourth for a 15-point victory.
On the other hand, Dope also recorded their first win in two games against BENECO Voltz in their Monday match up.
Both teams started the game with exchanges of triples. Five three point shots courtesy of David Ferrer, Michael Fegcan, Jesse Oliva and Joris Montesa, countered by BENECO Voltz’s three pointers of their own courtesy of Johnny Pascua gave Beneco the edge, 19-17.
DOPE, however, grabbed the lead at the starting minutes of the second with three pointers by David Ferrer that boosted the team to control and dictate the pace of the game. A big 37-23 run gave them a 54-42 edge to end the first half.
DOPE continued its aggressive play and match Beneco to still lead by 12, 79-67, after the third. Beneco tried a last ditch rally but yielded the game despite five conversions in the three point area including three by Adrian Abuan, 105-91.
