TABUK CITY, Kalinga April 4 The city government urged stranded students from this component city who are in Baguio City and Benguet to remain in their boarding houses or with their relatives and for them no to attempt to take the risk in travelling back home purposely for their own safety and the safety of their family members in the city.
Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero said that at this time of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine, it is best for the stranded students to stay where they are to protect them from unnecessarily contracting the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 once they take the risk of attempting to go back home that could also compromise the health of their family members in the city, thus, the local government decided to conduct an inventory of the stranded students in Baguio and Benguet to allow the provision of whatever available assistance to compel them to stay in their places.
He added that it will be too difficult for them to be travelling considering that law enforcers manning checkpoints inside and outside the city will no longer allow people to enter the city, even if they are from the different barangays, considering that they come from areas that have already confirmed COVID cases.
The local chief executive underscored that the safety of everyone is the primordial concern of the city officials that is why it is best for stranded students and residents of Tabuk who are in other places to stay in the said areas, provided the city government with the needed information about them, so that appropriate assistance could be extended to them as it is also their responsibility to look after their welfare.
Estrañero called on stranded students and residents to provide the needed information about them through the city’s facebook page Tabuk life so hat concerned offices will be able to consolidate the information for the provision of the available assistance from the city.
According to him, people travelling to the city, especially those coming from areas with confirmed COVI cases, will automatically be considered as persons under monitoring (PUMs) that will mandate them to undergo the required 14-a quarantine in their residences and isolation facilities.
However, he admitted that there are no sufficient isolation facilities in the city that could accommodate the huge influx of PUMs from other areas, thus, it was the decision of the local government to appeal to the stranded students to remain in their places instead of risking to go hoe.
