BONTOC, Mountain Province – The municipal office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has asked qualified voters to take advantage of the extended registration deadline from October 11-30, 2021.
According to Municipal Election Officer Atty. Rodante Selpaten, the extension is from Monday –Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M., no Saturdays, except for the last day which is October 30, 2021.
He said that the extension of voter registration is very welcome to the commission so everyone qualified will register to exercise their right to vote in the May 2022 national and local elections.
Relative to this, Selpaten urged the voters to register early and not to wait for the October 30, 2021 deadline. He added that all services will be offered to include registration of new voters, reactivation, correction, and transfer of registration records.
He reminded the public to bring any valid ID and a pen when visiting the Comelec office, and comply with healthy protocols. In the absence of a valid ID, the qualified voter applicant together with one witness shall fill in the Sworn Statement confirming that the former is of legal age to vote and a resident of the barangay where he/she claims to be a resident. Pro-forma of the Sworn Statement is available at the Comelec office
Meanwhile, Selpaten relayed that there are 15,355 registered voters in Bontoc. Of the total, 7,751 are females and 7, 604 are males.
The total registered voters in Bontoc is expected to increase once the 1,480 applications received by the Comelec office from July 1, 2021- September 30, 2021, will be approved since these are still subject to the Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing on October 19, 2021. By Alpine L. Killa
