LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. and Benguet caretaker congressman Eric Go Yap called on local contractors in the province to ensure they implement quality projects to prevent the waste of public funds in the prosecution of their awarded projects.
The neophyte lawmaker said while he prefers local contractors to implement government projects in the different parts of the province considering their familiarity with the prevailing condition and terrain in the project sites, local contractors should be responsible enough in ensuring their workmanship of their awarded projects complies with project specifications and standards thus compromising the quality of these projects and the safety and health of users.
Earlier, Yap, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Games and Amusements, announced he prefers local contractors to implement the projects in the province which had been provided with funding support by concerned government agencies to ensure the overall growth and development in the far flung communities of the province.
He asserted Benguet needs sufficient funding support from concerned government agencies for the continuous improvement of the state of infrastructure province-wide and that he will try to make representations with the different government line agencies to increase their funding support for the implementation of priority projects by the 13 municipal governments and the provincial govern that will translate to faster development in the whole province.
According to him, there is a need to develop the communities in the different parts of the province so that people will be able to enjoy increased economic activities and sources of livelihood.
Yap disclosed he is looking for a tourism destination that can be developed so that Benguet will have a distinct identity for tourists to patronize instead of the province relying on spillovers in the tourist arrivals in Baguio city to visit their destinations as Benguet has its own assets in terms of potential tourist destinations and what needs to be done is to develop and aggressively promote the same.
Benguet is known for its strawberry, cutflower and vegetable farms, Mount Pulag, the second highest mountain peak in the country, the Kabayan mummies, Tublay caves, the Daclan sulfur spring, majestic and towering mountains, mining communities, the Binga and Ambuclao dams, and other ecotourism destinations which are frequented by foreign and domestic tourists wanting to enjoy scenic views in the different parts of the Cordillera.
Congressman Yap rallied the support of concerned sectors in the province for the implementation of various development projects of different government agencies to achieve the state of development that will contribute in effort to move the people out from the shackles of poverty.
