ITOGON, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Eric Go Yap assured swift justice while condemning the rape and killing of a 10–year-old girl in the province.
On February 6, Yap visited and handed financial assistance to the parents of the victim whose remains was found in a ravine in Itogon, Benguet.
Aside from the financial assistance, Yap also paid the funeral expenses of the victim.
“Hindi ito katangap-tangap. Wala pong puwang sa ating probinsya ang mga ganitong klaseng kawalanghiyaan. Haharapin nung suspect and batas, haharapin nya ang hustisya. Kung anong ginawa nya, he will suffer all the consequences,” Yap said.
The girl went missing February 5 after she was reported to have taken a bath in their communal bathroom.
According to a police report, the victim was accompanied by her mother but was unable to return to their bunkhouse.
After noticing her daughter was missing, she went back to the communal bathroom but only found the clothes of the child.
The mother then prompted her neighbors to look for her daughter and reported the incident to the police.
The victim’s body was later discovered by residents of Ampucao, Itogon dumped in a 50–meter ravine.
“I assured sa mga magulang ng biktima na mabibigyan ko sila ng hustisya. Sa ama at ina ng biktima, sana maging matatag sila at humihingi ako ng paumanhin dahil gustohin ko man po pero hindi ko na maibalik ang buhay ng kanilang anak,” Yap added.
The solon also vowed to educate people in preventing this kind of crimes in the province and assured that peace and order will be among his priority while serving as Benguet’s lawmaker.
