BAGUIO CITY – The city tourism and special events office under the office for administration has lined up tourism training programs in line with the city’s tourism development and promotion thrust.
City administrator Carlos Canilao said the CTSEO under officer-in-charge Jose Maria Rivera has been conducting training programs for various stakeholders as part of the office’s capability building thrust to support informal and potential workers in the tourism sector of the city.
Rivera said the trainings will enable them “to enhance their productivity and professionalism and increase their income and employment opportunities.”
“This skills development program aims to encourage participation from unskilled and semi-skilled workers including women and the youth in collaboration with the private sector,” he said.
Last June 16, the office conducted a training seminar on Basic Tourism Statistics among personnel of the various accommodation establishments to intensify the collection of tourist statistical data.
Last June 28, the office partnered with Grab Taxi for the conduct of a seminar among tourism frontliners where lectures on etiquette and decorum, road courtesy and good personal hygiene were held.
Members of the Barangay Tourism Councils underwent a workshop last June 29 where they were apprised on city tourism updates, the tourism statistics situationer and were given a lecture on accreditation of tourism related and tourism-oriented accommodation firms.
A workshop on the identification of tourism-oriented and alternative accommodations per barangay was conducted.
Canilao said the office will spearhead the seminar workshop on the creation of the Baguio Tourism Master Development Plan scheduled next month.
The Baguio City Tourism Development Plan (BCTDP) steering committee conducted it first meeting last June 27 for the purpose.
