BAGUIO CITY- Lucban Elementary School whipped Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary Montessori (OLMCM), 46-30, last Sunday’s, January 8, to sweep the elimination round of Bracket “B” of the Y’Cup Elementary Division. Lucban got high with confidence as much with their excitement to move on to the semi-final round riding a bracket-leading 6-0 win-loss card that gave them the top position over their opposition.
Confident to reach the final round of the tournament, Lucban Elementary ball club dominated the game, watchful of their defensive and offensive strategies, against the taller OLMCM basketeers. Using speed to their advantage, Lucban Elementary played with a well executed man-to-man defense and controlled the boards to lead the first canto by a point, 12-11.
OLMCM plunge in three pointers through the basket in the second canto to control Lucban Elementary and it led to an even quarter. They even took over a slight lead, 19-18, at the end of the halftime buzzer.
The third inning, however, favoured much the Lucban Red Shirts as they swarmed over the taller OLMCM basketeers that resulted the Maroon Shirts to turnovers and gave them back the advantage. A running game initiated by Lucban increased their lead to ten points, 32-22, by the time the third canto ended.
Fourth quarter action draw the crowd on their feet as the Red Shirts continue to taunt their opponents with speed and basket precision. The Red Shirts continued to control the pace of the game and successfully outscored the opponent to the last minute of the game to even increase their lead to 16 and win the game.
Meanwhile, Lucban Elementary School and Berkeley Wave grab the top two positions in the Elementary Division Group “B” and will be advancing to the semifinals. They will be waiting for the top two teams from group “A”, which is still on going as this piece in written.
Likewise, the High School Boys – Cluster B division has Berkeley-B on the number one slot while the second seed was secured by YMCA B-Ball Club. They will advance to the semifinal round and will wait for the top two placers in High School Boys division Group A.
On the other hand, the High School Girls division will be playing their final games for the elimination round on January 15, 2017, at 8:00 am at the YMCA gym. The semifinal round for all divisions will start on January 22, 2017.
