MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government continues to extend relief assistance to members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors in the municipality heavily impacted by the implementation of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) since March this year.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong said the latest group the local government identified to receive relief assistance will be the security guards of two security agencies providing security services to a local mining company for them to cope with the serious negative impact of the community quarantine.
However, he explained it is the security guards of one of the agencies who were not able to receive their salaries over the past four to six months, but the municipal government opted to grant the same assistance to all the employed security guards of the two security agencies operating in the municipality to be fair with everyone, especially that they are also considered to be members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors being minimum wage earners.
“We fully understand the situation of our security guards, being minimum wage earners. We will extend the needed assistance to them to allow them to cope with the impact of the community quarantine,” Mayor Ayong stressed.

The municipal chief executive disclosed that the security guards will be receiving half cavan of rice from the municipal government to help them address their basic food needs while rendering their duties and responsibilities to the agencies where they are employed.
Earlier, the municipal government also gave similar assistance to daycare workers, barangay health workers, persons with disabilities, and solo parents, as part of the town’s vulnerable and marginalized sectors heavily impacted by the prevailing crisis situation triggered by the campaign to combat the rapid spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the municipality.
According to him, the municipal government continues to assess and evaluate its available resources that could still be spared as possible relief assistance to members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors of the municipality who are still in dire need of help to allow them to recover from the heavy impact of the community quarantine that had been inflicted on their employment and sources of livelihood.
He appealed to the beneficiaries of the relief assistance from the municipal government for their utmost understanding on the limited aid they can get because of the limited resources of the municipality and the Bayanihan grant that the municipal government got from the national government pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act.
The mayor claimed the relief assistance of the municipal government to the identified beneficiaries from the vulnerable and marginalized sectors is limited although households from the different barangays also get the same aid during the ECQ.
