Local hoteliers and tourism industry stakeholders will be featuring for the fourth time the Largest Wedding Cake simultaneous with the mass wedding of some ten couples at the SM City Baguio on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
The serving to residents and tourists of the more than 12,000 slices of the largest Wedding Cake is part of the activities lined up by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) for the 16th edition of the Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend that will be held in the city.
Art Nucaza, executive pastry chef of the Baguio Country Club (BCC) said that there will be a variety of flavors of the Largest Wedding Cake such as red velvet, chocolate vanilla, carrot and banana.
He disclosed that part of the ingredients of the said cake include some 450 sacks of flour, 32,000 pieces of eggs, 20,000 pieces of bananas, 600 kilos of carrots, 300 kilos of dark and white chocolates among others.
The BCC pastry chef explained that this year’s version of the cake will be spiral with a measurement of 24 feet by 18 feet on the base, 18 feet by 14 feet in the second layer, 14 feet by 10 feet on the third layer with a height of more than 7 feet.
According to him, some 60 hospitality professionals and 40 students will be working round the clock to prepare the largest Wedding Cake in time for its serving to the public right after the mass wedding of the 10 couples at the SM City Baguio on Saturday.
HRA will be conducting the activities lined up for this year’s 16th edition of the HRT Weekend in person following the lull of the annual events over the past three years because of the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Supposedly, the annual HRT Weekend will be on its 19th edition if not for the three years where no activities had been conducted because of the implementation of the community quarantine restrictions to contain the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
HRT Weekend organizers are inviting both residents and tourists alike to partake of the Largest Wedding Cake as there will be enough slices for everyone who will be at the venue early Saturday morning.
HRAB president and BCC general manager Anthony de Leon said that the group’s annual presentation of highlights of the HRT Weekend is their contribution to the growth of the city’s tourism industry, seating side plans of exceeding record holders enshrined in the Guinness Book of world Records because of the enormous expenses that will be incurred in bringing to the city validators of the said prestigious Book of World Records.
He disclosed that what matters is that residents and visitors will enjoy the annual conduct of the various activities and highlights of the HRT Weekend because the same is primarily geared towards helping in the aggressive promotion of the city as one of the premier tourist destinations in the country known for its cool weather, peace-loving people and a variety of distinct crowd drawing events distributed throughout the year.
Various hospitality industry stakeholders will be in the city to actively participate in the numerous competitions that had been lined up for the upcoming HRT Weekend to help in sustaining the city’s identity as a haven for culinary arts among others.
